Free curry, naan and rice at Glebefields Care Home in Drayton, 4pm to 6pm on Thursday 8 October. Open to any age; ring 01295 738133 to say you're coming.

Glebefields Care Home in Drayton is opening its doors for a free curry taster from 4pm to 6pm on Thursday 8 October, and anyone of any age can come. There will be vegetarian and non-vegetarian curries, served with naan and rice.

The home, on Stratford Road just outside Banbury, is billing the afternoon as “A Taste of India”. Its poster puts the invitation like this:

“Join us at Glebefields for a warm and welcoming curry taster session, where you can enjoy delicious Indian flavours, meet our residents and team, share good food and great company.”

Benazir Shakkir, the home’s general manager, asked us to list it, writing that the event is free “for any age group”. The home would like people to ring ahead on 01295 738133 so the kitchen knows how many to expect.

Where it is

Glebefields is a residential, nursing and respite care home run by Barchester Healthcare. Barchester describes it as “an impressive stone-built former rectory, overlooking miles of countryside”, next to the Norman parish church of St Peter in Drayton.

A second chance to look round: open day on 17 October

If Thursday afternoon does not suit, the home’s page lists an open day on Saturday 17 October: “Please come along to meet the team and find out more about life in our home.” No times are given there, so ring 01295 738133 first if you are planning a visit around a particular hour.

What it means for you

A free tea-time plate of curry on the edge of Banbury, and a relaxed way to see inside a local care home before you ever need to choose one for a parent or partner. It is also company for the residents, which is the point of the afternoon as the home tells it. Ring ahead, turn up between 4pm and 6pm on Thursday, and there is more on what else is happening locally in What’s On in Banbury this month.
